I was excited to get my hands on a copy of Home Cooked by Anya Fernald as I have heard such good things about her new cookbook. It is a beautiful book, thick pages and very substantial with tons of color photographs throughout the book. There are many many recipes. Some are basic and some are quite complex. There are recipes to make your own buttermilk which I think I might actually try since it is so hard to find good buttermilk without chemicals and growth hormones. The other recipes are a little less intriguing to me. When flipping through this book I found maybe a handful of recipes that I would actually make. The rest are recipes that include hard to find ingredients like rabbit, squid, or quail. There was also a few recipes on making your own sausage. This isn't something I see myself trying to attempt any time soon. Even the desserts didn't seem like ones that I would make. Before deciding to purchase this book, I highly recommend paging through it to see if the recipes fit your taste. Unfortunately they didn't fit mine except for a few. Overall this is a nice cookbook, one that is beautiful to look at but not as nice to cook from. I received a free copy of this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.
